We have just returned from a lovely week at the Cottage. The reason for our visit was to have new carpets fitted, and that job was easily completed with the help of some lovely local businesses. We are very pleased with the end result – you can’t beat the feeling of new carpets underfoot.

We also had the front and rear Courtyards cleaned in preparation for the Summer days to come. A lovely sunny area to relax in and unwind.

Whilst we were there we rediscovered Dent, a beautiful quaint village not far away from Kirkby, with some lovely places to have a coffee or bite to eat. Meadowside had some delicious offerings, which were very welcome after the lovely walks that this area has to offer.

We very much enjoyed a meal at The Pheasant at Casterton, just a mile outside the town.

Of course The Royal Barn in Kirkby never fails to deliver, and we enjoyed some delicious lunches and early evening drinks, taking in the attractive decor and great atmosphere. Spice Essence truly lived up to its name, with some very tasty options on the extensive menu.

When we weren’t eating, walking or relaxing in the cottage we thoroughly enjoyed pottering around the shops. Bumblebee Gallery, Gathered and With Love, just to mention a few had some great ideas for Easter. With clearly skilled buyers the range of beautiful items on offer were a joy to see on display.

The Thursday market was as busy as ever, and combined with shops like Dales Butchers, it was very easy to purchase some lovely food to eat back at the cottage.

All in all a lovely break away, with the added bonus of spring flowers and baby lambs – all giving a glimpse of the promise of the spring and summer months to come.
